Whitelake is a hilltop lake and town in Lyrian, it lies just south of the Sunken Lands, and north of Trensicourt.

The Lake[]

Instead of water, the lake consists of a strange, thick, white material. If an object is dropped gently in the lake, it will be sucked down. Because of this, nothing is able to float on the surface of the lake, such as boats, insects, wood, and even dust. However, if you press hard enough, the surface will resist the pressure and hold for a moment. The substance in the lake is very similar to the substance of oobleck found on Earth. The lake is very hot near the center. Some even believe the lake to be bewitched or cursed, causing many people to steer clear of the lake.

The Town[]

The town of Whitelake is home to hunters, scavengers, trappers, miners, traders, gamblers and outlaws. It is described as a dusty outpost full of burly men wearing animal skins. The largest buildings in the town were arranged along a central road, with a scattered assortment of shacks, cabins, and lean-tos in clusters just off of the main street. The town included a store, which sold Jason and Rachel water containers, gutplug, and dried meat. Whitlake is also where Jason and Rachel encountered Tad, working for the Emporer.

A World Without Heroes[]

Jason, Rachel, and Ferrin travel to Whitelake to find Malar. On the way, Ferrin notices a man following them, this man is most likely Jasher, whom Jason and Rachel meet just outside of the town. They discover that if enough pressure is applied to the surface of the lake, then it solidifies. The group uses this to their advantage as Rachel runs fast and presses down hard on the surface to get to the center island. Rachel ran for an unknown amount of time before reaching the center island, leaving her extremely exhausted. Rachel partially recovered however and found an entrance to a cave below the island, where she found Malar and got the fifth syllable to the Word, dra. Whitlelake is also where Jason and Rachel learned that Ferrin was spying on them for Maldor.
